Chelsea's massive clear-out: Pulisic, Hudson-Odoi, and more among £260m in talent up for sale

Chelsea FC is gearing up for a summer of change as the club’s new owner, Todd Boehly, continues his squad overhaul.

A number of first-team players, including Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Mateo Kovacic, are rumored to be on the transfer list, as the club aims to trim its roster and make room for new talent.

In the past year, Chelsea has undergone a major player overhaul, splurging over £600 million on 18 new players in just two transfer windows. This has resulted in a senior squad of over 30 players, leading to difficult decision-making for manager Graham Potter. With only three of the eight January signings eligible for the Champions League squad, some first-team players will inevitably be left out, leading to potential departures this summer.

US soccer star, Pulisic, is reportedly at the forefront of the summer exits. Despite joining Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund for £58 million in 2019, the 24-year-old forward has struggled to secure a consistent starting spot and has faced injury issues. With his contract set to expire in June 2024 and no plans to extend, the club is open to offers for Pulisic in the summer.

Morocco’s Ziyech may also depart after his deadline day move to PSG fell through. Along with him, Kovacic, Koulibaly, and Hudson-Odoi could also be made available for transfer. Even Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, who was a £97.5 million flop, is expected to move on from the club.

N'Golo Kante with Mason Mount

However, the futures of Mason Mount and N’Golo Kante remain uncertain as the club is keen to get the pair to sign new deals. Meanwhile, manager Graham Potter faces a daunting task in managing the playing needs of a squad with more than 30 players.

As Chelsea prepares to take on West Ham on Saturday, the team sits 10 points off the top four. With a summer of changes on the horizon, the coming months will prove to be a critical period for the club as they look to solidify their place among Europe’s elite.
