Manchester City began their FIFA Club World Cup 2025 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Wydad AC in Philadelphia, claiming an early lead in Group G.
City made a quick start, opening the scoring inside two minutes when Phil Foden pounced on a rebound after a cross from Savinho was spilled by Wydad goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid. Foden calmly slotted home from close range to give City an ideal start.

Wydad had opportunities of their own, with Thembinkosi Lorch forcing a good save from Ederson midway through the first half. But City doubled their lead before the break when Jeremy Doku converted Foden’s corner at the far post.
Despite some second-half pressure, City controlled the match. Doku and Erling Haaland both had chances to extend the lead, but were denied by Benabid.
City were reduced to ten men late on when Rico Lewis received a red card after a clash with Samuel Obeng, though the dismissal appeared harsh.
