Bernardo Silva Opens Up on His Manchester City Future

Bernardo Silva has spoken candidly about the uncertainty surrounding his long-term future at Manchester City, while emphasizing his full commitment to the club for the upcoming season.

The Portuguese star, recently named City’s new captain after Kevin De Bruyne’s departure to Napoli, will lead a refreshed squad into the new campaign. While Pep Guardiola usually allows players to vote for their leadership group, this year he personally selected Bernardo alongside Rodri, Ruben Dias, and Erling Haaland to form the core leadership team.

Asked about his contract situation, Bernardo admitted, “I know what I want to do, but it’s not the right moment to discuss it. My focus is entirely on performing for Manchester City this season.”

He acknowledged the possibility of an exit next year: “I have one year left on my contract, so obviously I can leave next season. But this season, like last year, I am staying at Manchester City.”

Reflecting on City’s challenging previous campaign, Bernardo stressed the importance of learning from difficult moments. “We had important conversations last season as a group and learned a lot. We won’t forget those lessons as we move forward.”

With new signings such as Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, and Rayan Ait-Nouri now part of the squad, Bernardo will play a key role in guiding City’s fresh talent. The new Premier League season kicks off on August 16th with an away clash against Wolves.
