MANCHESTER, England ,Manchester City are determined to etch their name into football history by becoming the first-ever champions of the newly expanded FIFA Club World Cup, with Phil Foden expressing excitement and belief in the squad’s ability to conquer the world’s best.

City are one of 32 elite clubs heading to the United States for a month-long football spectacle running from June 14 to July 13, 2025, marking a major shift from the old seven-team format. Pep Guardiola’s side will kick off their campaign on June 18, drawn into Group G alongside:

• 🇲🇦 Wydad Casablanca (Morocco)

• 🇦🇪 Al Ain (UAE)

• 🇮🇹 Juventus (Italy)

The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stages, setting the stage for potentially historic clashes across 11 cities in the US.

Foden: “We want to be the first on that trophy”

Speaking to FIFA, England star Phil Foden said the team is highly motivated to make history by lifting the first title of the revamped competition.

“Speaking to a few of the lads, we’ve spoken about that – being the first on the trophy would be nice,” said Foden.
“That’s definitely the aim and, with the players and quality we have in the team, I’m pretty sure we’re more than capable of doing that.”

Foden also welcomed the challenge of competing in a global tournament against teams with different styles and footballing philosophies, adding:

“You want to play against the best people, the best players. It’s about experiencing different things in life… the stadiums, the fans – I’m just looking forward to it. It’s exciting.”

In a boost for global fans, the entire FIFA Club World Cup 2025 will be streamed free and live via DAZN in most countries around the world. Fans will only need a free, registered account to watch the action unfold including City’s high-profile matchups against Juventus and continental champions.

City chase elusive global crown

Manchester City qualified for the tournament as Champions League winners in 2023, and after lifting nearly every available trophy under Guardiola, the Club World Cup remains one of the final frontiers.

With Rodri returning to fitness and a deep squad led by Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, and Ruben Dias, City are among the early favourites to reach the final on July 13 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
