Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has warned his side against underestimating a resurgent Wolves ahead of Friday’s crucial Premier League showdown at the Etihad Stadium.
While City continue their pursuit of Champions League qualification and the FA Cup title, Wolves arrive in Manchester riding the momentum of six straight league victories — a run that has seen them surge from relegation danger to mid-table safety.
Wolves Rise from Relegation Threat to Mid-Table Safety
Just six weeks ago, Vitor Pereira’s Wolves were staring down the barrel of a relegation battle, hovering just above the drop zone with only Ipswich Town, Luton Town, and Burnley below them.
Fast forward to now, and Wolves are 13th in the table, 20 points clear of relegation, after putting together a run that includes wins over the likes of Brighton, Everton, and Crystal Palace.
Guardiola admits he’s not surprised by the turnaround.
“The quality they have, the shape they play and the courage [they have], it’s no surprise,” said the City boss.
“Wolves always have really good players and now they have an incredible run.”
City Facing ‘Four Finals’ Starting with Dangerous Wolves
With just four Premier League matches left this season, Guardiola views each game as a must-win if his side is to secure a place in next year’s Champions League and potentially push for a top-two finish.
“It’s another final for us. Maybe the most important game we have ahead of us,” he emphasized.
City will be wary of the freedom with which Wolves can now play, having mathematically secured their top-flight status.
“I’m pretty sure the Wolves players wanted to come here already safe, from the difficult position they were in,” Guardiola added.
