Pep Guardiola Confirms Ederson as Manchester City’s Number One Goalkeeper

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Ederson remains his first-choice goalkeeper for the 2025/26 campaign, despite growing speculation over the Brazilian’s future.

The 32-year-old has been linked with a move to Galatasaray, while City have reportedly monitored PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and previously FC Porto’s Diogo Costa. However, speaking before and after City’s 4-0 win over Wolves, Guardiola clarified Ederson’s status.

“Today he [Ederson] would have played, the problem he had he was ill. What happened? I don’t know,” Guardiola said at Molineux.

Ederson’s absence against Wolves saw James Trafford make his Premier League debut, but Guardiola’s comments make clear that the Brazilian remains the club’s mainstay when fit.

FAQs

  • Why did Ederson miss the Wolves game? He was sidelined due to illness, not transfer speculation.
  • Is Ederson still the first choice? Yes, Guardiola confirmed he remains City’s No.1.
  • Could City still sell him? Possibly, with Galatasaray interested and his contract expiring in 2026.

Conclusion

For now, Ederson continues as Manchester City’s undisputed No.1. However, with transfer interest ongoing and City scouting long-term options, the situation could evolve before his contract expires in 2026.
