Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has warned his players not to underestimate Ipswich Town ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium, insisting the visitors have the quality to cause problems despite being the underdogs.
City head into the encounter looking to secure a seventh consecutive Premier League victory and strengthen their position at the top of the table. However, Maresca is fully aware that Gary O’Neil’s newly promoted Ipswich side will arrive with confidence after a promising start to the campaign.
Ipswich sit 10th in the table after winning three of their opening six matches, with victories over Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Fulham underlining their ability to compete in the top flight.
Speaking ahead of the match, Maresca stressed that City must be prepared for a difficult afternoon against a team that has had a full week to prepare.
“I said many times, they are dangerous,” the City boss said.
“They had the entire week to prepare and can surprise us.”
Maresca Eyes Another Premier League Victory
Manchester City have enjoyed an impressive run of form, recording victories over Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Coventry City, Manchester United, Sunderland and Liverpool in their recent sequence.
A win against Ipswich would extend that run to seven consecutive Premier League victories and provide another boost to City’s title ambitions.
Maresca also highlighted the importance of the opportunity, with City potentially able to move six points clear of the team in second place, depending on the results elsewhere.
“It’s a great opportunity to win and go six points ahead of second,” he added.
Despite City’s strong form, the manager’s comments suggest the champions will approach the fixture with caution. Ipswich’s ability to prepare specifically for the encounter could make them a difficult opponent, particularly if they can disrupt City’s rhythm and exploit spaces on the counter-attack.
Etihad Set for Another Banana-Filled Atmosphere
Away from the action on the pitch, City supporters are expected to bring plenty of colour to the Etihad Stadium, with inflatable yellow bananas once again set to feature in the stands.

The tradition dates back to the 1980s but has recently enjoyed a revival, most notably during City’s emphatic 3-0 victory away to Liverpool.
The unusual fan display has attracted renewed attention, creating a lively atmosphere around the team and reconnecting supporters with a memorable part of the club’s history.
Maresca admitted he was unfamiliar with the story behind the tradition but welcomed the return of the inflatables and their contribution to the matchday experience.
“Very nice,” he said.
“I didn’t know the history behind the banana. I hope tomorrow I can see many bananas in the stadium.”
The City manager added: “It creates a nice environment for the fans in the stadium.”
Ipswich Pose a Test Despite City’s Strong Form
While City will enter the match with confidence, Ipswich’s early-season results suggest they should not be taken lightly.
Three victories from six matches have helped O’Neil’s side establish themselves in the top half of the table, giving them a platform to approach the Etihad fixture with belief.
Their challenge will be to remain organised against City’s attacking quality while taking advantage of any opportunities that emerge. For the hosts, patience, concentration and defensive discipline could be just as important as their ability to create chances.
City’s recent success against Liverpool will have boosted morale, but Maresca will want his players to maintain the same intensity and focus against an opponent capable of springing a surprise.
City Look to Maintain Momentum
Saturday’s meeting offers Manchester City an opportunity to continue their winning run and build further momentum in the Premier League title race.
Maresca has made clear that he recognises the threat posed by Ipswich, and his warning serves as a reminder that City’s recent performances will count for little if they fail to deliver on the day.
With a potentially significant advantage at the top of the table available, City will be determined to make home advantage count. Ipswich, meanwhile, will hope to turn their encouraging start into another statement result.
Manchester City face Ipswich Town at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, 17 October, with kick-off scheduled for 16:00 CAT.
