Man City loses key players to transfers, leaving Pep Guardiola worry for Club World Cup."

As Manchester City gears up for their shot at the Club World Cup, there’s an unmistakable feeling in the air—something is missing. Despite the glamour of a global stage, this pre-season carries a familiar undertone: preparation, rest, and reflection. But for Pep Guardiola, it also carries a subtle ache of absence.

The squad has touched down in the United States, balancing intense, sweat-soaked training with much-needed relaxation. There’s been time carved out for players to unwind with their families—a gesture of care after a long, grueling season. City is trying to give its stars a breather, even as they call them back early to chase another trophy.

Wednesday marks their first outing on the pitch, but until then, the days will be a blend of light sessions and laid-back moments. Yet amid the calm, something that once felt like a tradition is noticeably gone: the chance for a young academy star to shine.

In summers past, fresh talent from the youth ranks would light up the pre-season. Names like Rico Lewis, Oscar Bobb, and Nico O’Reilly emerged with confidence, their performances a symbol of promise and potential. These were the moments that hinted at City’s future.

But this year, that spark is missing. Not a single Under-18 or Under-21 player made the trip in the 27-man squad. The academy has stayed behind, running its own pre-season, separate from the first team’s journey. It’s a stark change—especially considering Guardiola had recently spoken of leaning on the youth players to help fill gaps and allow veterans the rest they deserve.

“We’ll be with our families, we’ll train when needed and prepare for the games,” Guardiola said earlier this year. “This tournament means a lot—for the club, for its finances, and its reputation. And of course, we always welcome our academy players.”

This time, though, there’s only silence where new voices might have been. And for a club built as much on its future as its present, that silence is deeply felt.
