“I’m Back and I Feel Strong” – Rodri’s Ready to Lead City Again

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has expressed his happiness at returning to action following a long-term injury layoff.

The Spain international suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during a Premier League clash against Arsenal in September, just weeks before he was named the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner.

Rodri made his comeback in City’s penultimate Premier League game of the 2024/25 season and has since featured off the bench in the team’s opening two matches of the FIFA Club World Cup.

I feel very good and very happy to be here,” said Rodri. “This is a massive opportunity for me to come back. The process was long, but I stayed focused.”

Although manager Pep Guardiola has stressed the need to carefully manage the 29-year-old’s return, Rodri believes the tournament provides the perfect environment to regain match fitness and reintegrate into a squad that has seen eight new arrivals since January.

I know it will take months to reach my level again, but this tournament is the best way to start that process,” Rodri added.

We’re figuring out the best way to incorporate the new signings, and the Club World Cup offers a great platform to prepare for the season ahead.”
