Gvardiol Wins Etihad Player of the Season Award

Josko Gvardiol has been named Manchester City’s Etihad Player of the Season for 2024/25, beating out Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland in the fan-voted contest.

In a standout campaign, Gvardiol became only the second defender to claim the award over the past 12 seasons, a testament to his consistent performances across the year.

He featured in more matches than any other City player, making 53 appearances in all competitions. Known for his defensive dependability, the 23-year-old also made a notable contribution offensively, scoring five times in the Premier League—joint-most among defenders.

Among his highlights was a stunning strike against Wolves, which earned him City’s Nissan Goal of the Month award for October.

Speaking after receiving the honor during his downtime at the FIFA Club World Cup, Gvardiol thanked supporters for their recognition: I’m grateful to the fans for this award. It’s a proud moment for me, and I’m looking forward to what we can accomplish next season.”
