Pep Guardiola has called on his Manchester City players to rediscover the creative spark that has propelled Erling Haaland to record-breaking heights in the Premier League.

The Norwegian forward, who clinched the Golden Boot in each of his first two seasons, started his third campaign in blistering form. Haaland made history by scoring 10 goals in the opening five league matches, including hat-tricks against Ipswich and West Ham.

However, a dip in City’s recent performances has seen Haaland net just twice in his last eight league appearances, raising questions about his form. Speaking at his Christmas Eve press conference, Guardiola dismissed the notion that Haaland’s contribution is the issue, instead emphasizing the need for the entire team to step up.

“It is about us, not just one player,” Guardiola said. “In the past, when we scored goals and Erling was so prolific, it was because of the team.

“When you have problems at the back and middle, it is all about the team. Not just one player. If it’s just one player, it would be easy to see the reason why.

“Erling is so important for us and will continue to be. We need to use him better.”

Guardiola also defended his team’s effort levels amid a challenging period for the reigning champions. Ahead of their Boxing Day clash with Everton, the City boss stressed that his squad remains fully committed to turning their fortunes around.

“This situation is new for all of us. It’s about us, everyone. The guys are running and making an effort more than ever,” he explained.

“People say we are not running, fighting, or that it’s this player or this manager. It’s not about that.

“It is about many little details—or some big details—that make us not as good as we were. But we have another opportunity on Boxing Day.

“We have players coming back, and at a certain time, we will be better.”

City will hope to reignite their attacking rhythm when they take on Everton in the early kick-off on Boxing Day, aiming to get back to winning ways and keep pace in the Premier League title race.
