Manchester City’s Claudio Echeverri is being assessed by medical staff after suffering a twisted ankle during the Club World Cup victory over Al Ain.

The 19-year-old was forced off at half-time of the 6-0 win in Atlanta, having opened his account for the club with a well-taken free-kick in his first start.Echeverri, who arrived from River Plate in January, was later seen on crutches and wearing a protective boot.

He has not trained ahead of City’s Group G decider against Juventus on Thursday, making his participation doubtful.

Manager Pep Guardiola confirmed the substitution was due to the knock, saying: “That’s why he could not continue, but he’s an incredible player – a big, big talent in small spaces – and I’m happy for him.”

City have already secured a place in the last 16, but a win over Juventus would ensure they top the group. Echeverri’s availability remains uncertain pending further evaluation.
