City Duo Fowler and Hasegawa Nominated for PFA Player of the Year

Manchester City’s Mary Fowler and Yui Hasegawa have both been shortlisted for the 2024/25 PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, voted for by their fellow professionals.

They join Alessia Russo and Mariona Caldentey (Arsenal), Erin Cuthbert (Chelsea), and Phallon Tullis-Joyce (Manchester United) on the six-player shortlist. Fowler is also a contender for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

List of PFA Player of the year

Fowler enjoyed a standout campaign, scoring six goals and providing seven assists in the WSL, with only teammate Lauren Hemp providing more assists. In February, she set a WSL record for goal involvements in four consecutive matches. Although her season was interrupted by injury, she remains the only City player to reach double figures for combined goals and assists across all competitions this season.

Hasegawa, who claimed City’s Etihad Player of the Season honor, was equally impressive. The Japanese midfielder led the WSL in dribbles completed, was involved in the most shot-ending sequences for her position, and won possession more than any other top-flight player — remarkably achieving this without committing a single foul in league play.

If successful, Fowler or Hasegawa would become the fourth City player to win the award, following Izzy Christiansen (2015/16), Lucy Bronze (2016/17), and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw (2023/24).

The winner will be announced during the PFA Awards ceremony on 19 August in Manchester. Manchester City wishes both players the very best of luck.
