Ederson: We're hungry to Make Club World Cup History with City

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson says the opportunity to become the first winners of the expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup is providing extra motivation for the team.

The Brazilian international helped City win the tournament in its previous format in 2023 and has been instrumental again as Pep Guardiola’s side made a strong start in the United States, winning both Group G games without conceding.

It’s really important for us to try and make history and win this competition,” Ederson said. “No other team has won this trophy, and we have the opportunity to become the first.”

Victory against Juventus on Thursday in Orlando would secure top spot in the group and allow City to remain in Florida for their last-16 tie.

Every player is focused on training and on the game, and it’s really good for the club,” Ederson added.

The 30-year-old also spoke positively about the new additions to the squad, including Ait-Nouri, Reijnders, Cherki and Bettinelli, saying their hunger and mentality has improved overall squad depth.

Normally we have 22 or 23 players but now we have 27. The new players have brought a new hunger to win games and trophies,” he said.
