“We had good moments,” Guardiola said post-match. “Starting well is always important, especially in the first game of the group stage. We had some problems, particularly losing simple balls that led to transitions, but overall it was a positive first step.”
The match also featured competitive debuts for summer signings Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki, who both showed promise in their first official appearances for the club.
Guardiola emphasized the importance of gradually integrating new players and managing the return of those recovering from injuries. “Step by step, we’re going to improve and find our rhythm,” he added

Foden’s contribution was crucial, scoring the opener and providing the assist for Doku’s goal. Guardiola praised his midfielder’s consistent impact: “Phil’s always there. His delivery for the second goal was excellent.”
Squad Rotation Ahead
Looking ahead to the next match, Guardiola indicated that several changes would be made. “We need to give minutes to players returning from injury. Next game, ten new players will feature as we continue to build momentum.”
City’s next Group G match is against Al Ain on Sunday, as they continue their Club World Cup campaign.
