Cherki: I’d Only Leave Lyon for the Right Opportunity

Cherki: I’d Only Leave Lyon for the Right Opportunity

Rayan Cherki has publicly addressed his transfer to Manchester City for the first time following the confirmation of his £34 million move.

The French attacker, now committed to a five-year contract with the English club, emphasized that it required a project he had strong faith in to make him depart from his former team, Lyon.

At 21 years old, Cherki is now eligible to compete in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup with City.

In a statement released by the club, Cherki shared his thoughts:

This is a moment I’ve dreamed of. Being part of a team like Manchester City and progressing my career here is truly special.”

“I’ve dedicated so much effort and passion to reach this point. Football means everything to me, and I’m eager to grow even more under Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff.”

“City’s dominance in recent years speaks for itself. I’m excited about the responsibility of contributing to their continued success.”

“Leaving Lyon wasn’t a decision I took lightly. I needed to believe in the vision of the club I was joining—and everything about City’s approach made me confident. I look forward to showing the supporters what I can bring to the pitch.”
