Manchester City's Opening Bid for Rayan Cherki Rejected by Lyon

Olympique Lyonnais have reportedly turned down Manchester City’s initial offer for promising French talent Rayan Cherki.

Current Situation

As per journalist Florian Plettenberg, City’s first bid was not accepted by Lyon, but a second offer is already in the works. Cherki, 21, is said to be patiently awaiting an agreement between the two clubs and is not rushing the process.

Transfer Momentum Builds

Following France’s dramatic 5-4 loss to Spain in the UEFA Nations League semi-final, Cherki appeared to hint that a move to City is close, reportedly stating it is “getting done.”

The versatile attacker, who excels both as a right winger and an attacking midfielder, is believed to have already agreed personal terms with the Premier League champions. It now seems to be a matter of finalizing terms between the clubs.

Cherki’s Impressive Season

Seen by some as a potential long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, Cherki had a standout campaign with Lyon, recording 12 goals and 20 assists across all competitions.

Transfer Details

The French international reportedly has a £25 million (€34m) release clause in his current contract, which runs through 2026.

What’s Next?

Cherki is expected to feature in France’s third-place playoff match against Germany in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday. Meanwhile, talks between Lyon and City are expected to continue as both sides seek a final agreement.
