Erling Haaland has finished eighth in the 2026 Men’s Ballon d’Or rankings, making the Manchester City striker the highest-placed player from the Premier League at this year’s ceremony in London.
Although the Norwegian forward missed out on the top positions, his place inside the top 10 underlines his standing among the leading players in world football following another productive campaign.
The 2026 award was presented on Monday, 26 October, with Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane claiming the prestigious individual honour. Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé finished second, while Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal secured third place.
Haaland finished ahead of Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise, who placed ninth, and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabián Ruiz, who completed the top 10.
Haaland Leads Premier League Players
Haaland’s eighth-place finish made him the highest-ranked Premier League player in the final standings, placing him ahead of Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, who finished 15th, and Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, who was 27th.
The recognition reflects the Norwegian’s continued influence at the highest level, with his goalscoring ability remaining one of his defining strengths.
According to the Premier League’s report on the ceremony, Haaland’s achievements during the 2025/26 campaign included winning the Premier League Golden Boot alongside the FA Cup and EFL Cup. He also scored seven goals as Norway progressed to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
Those accomplishments helped secure his position among the 10 leading contenders for football’s most celebrated individual prize.
Kane Claims the Biggest Prize
While Haaland occupied eighth place, Kane enjoyed the biggest night of his individual career by winning the Men’s Ballon d’Or.

The Bayern Munich forward scored 73 goals for club and country across all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign, according to UEFA, helping his team retain the Bundesliga title as part of a domestic treble.
Mbappé finished second, with Yamal completing the podium after another impressive season for Barcelona.
For Haaland, the result leaves him outside the leading three, but his position among the top 10 confirms that he remains firmly in the conversation at the elite level.
What the Result Means for Manchester City
Haaland’s eighth-place finish provides another major individual recognition for Manchester City’s prolific forward, even if it falls short of the ultimate prize.
For a striker whose reputation is built around scoring goals and delivering decisive performances, the ranking offers a measure of recognition for his work over the voting period. However, the Ballon d’Or is determined by a broader assessment of individual performances, collective achievements and other voting criteria.
The final standings also highlight the strength of competition for the award, with several of Europe’s most prominent attacking players occupying the places above him.
Haaland will now turn his attention back to Manchester City and the challenges ahead. With the individual awards ceremony concluded, his focus will be on continuing to score, helping City compete for trophies and building another strong season.
Eighth place may not be the position Haaland ultimately hopes to achieve, but finishing as the Premier League’s highest-ranked player ensures that his name remains among the leading figures in world football.
