Manchester City continued their preparation for the return of domestic football with a fine 2-0 friendly win over Girona at the Football Academy Stadium.

Kevin De Bruyne gave supporters a great homecoming gift by netting five minutes into his return from the World Cup, before the classy midfielder set-up Erling Haaland’s strike.

Youngsters such as Rico LewisShea CharlesJadel Katongo, and Morgan Elliot Rogers were included in the starting XI and were given a chance to step up. They were excellent on the defensive line and kept a clean sheet with the help of senior squad players – Sergio Gomez and Stefan Ortega Moreno.

While the rest were on defense, Morgan Rogers played on the left wing with supporting forwards – Erling Haaland and Riyad Mahrez. He was later replaced by Carlos Borges in the 51st minute of the match.

This game was a pivotal one in terms of preparing for match sharpness and the season to resume after a long spell without club level action, ahead of next week’s Carabao Cup fourth round clash with Liverpool.
